The phenomenon known as “Street Creep” has gotten a lot of attention over the last 8-10 years, including several stories on local news stations. The news coverage is a good thing for homeowners, as most people have never heard of it until it “creeps” up on their homes foundation.
So what exactly is Street Creep? Simply put, Street Creep is the expansion of concrete as the temperature rises. For most homeowners this isn’t a real concern, however for others, this concrete expansion can have devastating effects on their homes foundation.
How does it damage my foundation? Think of the street, your driveway, your garage floor, and your foundation wall at the back of your garage as a set of dominoes. The street is the first domino, and your foundation wall is the last domino. As the concrete street warms up in the summer heat, it expands and puts pressure on your driveway, which then puts pressure on your garage floor, and finally, the last domino standing is your foundation wall.
